Is IVF the only fertility treatment?

One in six couples experience issues when trying to conceive a baby. When couples are struggling to fall pregnant, it’s important to understand when to seek help.

At IVF4 family we recommend seeking help from a gynecologist affiliated with IVF4family when:

  • You’ve been trying to conceive for more than 12 months and the female partner is under 35 years old.
  • You’ve been trying to conceive for 6 months and the female partner is aged between 35 and 37. This is specifically important if the male partner is more than five years older than the female partner.
  • The female partner is older than 37 years.
  • The female partner has irregular periods or either partner has a known fertility issue.

Seeing a gynaecologist with an interest in infertility does not mean you’ll have IVF treatment. When seeing your specialist affiliated with IVF4family, the couple will both be asked to have tests to check their fertility.

From these tests, IVF might not be the best option and there are other fertility treatments that could be suitable including:

  • medications to induce ovulation if the woman is not ovulating
  • oil based contrast to the uterus
  • a procedure for those where varicose veins are present
  • surgery for endometriosis or fibroids.

It is important to see a gynaecologist with an interest in infertility to understand the treatment options suitable for you. GP’s are able to refer you to a gynaecologist affiliated with IVF4family to receive personalised treatment options.

There are many fertility treatments available, not just IVF, and as technology and science evolves, more and more fertility treatments will become available.
